About Stephen

As a journalist Stephen has reported on environmental topics in Canada and internationally for 15 years.

Currently the North American environmental correspondent for the Inter Press Service news agency (IPS), based in Rome, Stephen's articles are published in 500+ newspapers, magazines and online news sites worldwide in up to 20 languages. He has also written commissioned articles for Maclean’s Magazine, The Toronto Star, UK-based New Scientist magazine, BBC Wildlife, and London Sunday Times, and the US-based Wired News, Audubon Magazine and Earth Island Journal.

Stephen has covered farming and agricultural issues for Durham riding publications, for provincial media such as Better Farming and the Western Producer, and for the UK-based Farmer's Weekly. He has lectured on environmental journalism in several countries and is a member of the international Society of Environmental Journalists.

Prior to his journalism career, Stephen worked for 10 years in corporate marketing.

Stephen has been an active member of many community groups including the Optimist Club, the Durham Environmental Network and other local environmental organizations, co-founded the Concerned Citizens of Brooklin, and has run a basketball program for teenagers for several years.
