Climate change is one of the greatest challenges of our time. It not only threatens to change our way of life, but is expected to cause mass species extinction and human suffering on a global scale. By combining personal action with government regulations, market mechanisms and incentives, the Green Party believes Ontario can dramatically reduce greenhouse gases and begin turning back the clock on climate change.
In Durham, the York Durham Residual Waste incinerator project threatens to send millions of tons of garbage up the chimney in the form of greenhouse gases mixed with a cocktail of harmful chemicals. The so-called "Energy From Waste" would never produce a net gain in energy. Far better, we say, to cut down on non-recyclable waste by legislating less packaging and getting producers to take responsibility for the end-of-life disposal of goods.
