A letter from the indomitable Janet McNeil in Deep River (formerly of Port Perry/Greenbank) - an enviro activist, organizer and writer:
"I’m not a TV-watcher – no cable or anything – but I do catch some shows on-line.
I just watched a delightful “Nature of Things” episode
http://www.cbc.ca/documentaries/natureofthings/index.html#
David Suzuki & his younger daughter took a 3-week trip to Europe, to encounter do-able new ways of living - & the show is a delight.
In Denmark & Germany they see tons of wind turbines. In Copenhagen, lots & lots of bikes. In Germany Suzuki talks to German politician Herman Scheer (I also watched the Fifth Estate show about him tonight; “The Gospel of Green” - wow!!) & we see Suzuki & daughter taking a ride on a solar-powered boat in Berlin.
In France they learn about a winery that uses biodynamic methods, & in Spain they travel on an amazingly fast train & go to see an amazing solar installation whose name I didn’t catch – but again, wow!!!
Suzuki emphasizes again & again that Europeans are doing all this neat stuff because it makes sense & is good for the economy....not for environmental reasons. It just makes sense........
It’s a delight to see Suzuki chatting w. his daughter. They have some personal “Aha!” moments about what Sarika’s childhood was like w. David Suzuki as her Dad......... It’s very touching.
